Hi, my name is Matthias Young and I’m a professional music teacher and an established leader in the field of music education. As well as offering rock and classical guitar lessons, I also offer piano and ukulele lessons. I specialize in a hybrid teaching system, combining both modern and classical guitar pedagogy and integrating multimedia elements for a complete educational experience. My approach has gained attention as many of my students have achieved great proficiency with maximized efficiency in minimal time.

I am passionate about music education and have had the opportunity to teach at multiple institutions. Among these are the Callanwolde Fine Arts Center and Emory Continuing Education at Emory University. In the Fall of 2017, I established the guitar program at Mount Vernon Presbyterian School in Atlanta, GA, and hold the title of Director of Guitar.

I am an accomplished tenor soloist. Having performed professionally for over a decade, I’ve assisted the choirs of The First Presbyterian Church of Atlanta and St. Peter’s and St. Mary’s Church in Rome, GA. I currently lead the tenor section and am Assistant Conductor at Mount Vernon Presbyterian Church in Dunwoody, GA.

In 2012, I authored the first of several books, Metal Guitar Method, which has become a best-seller on Amazon.  These publications have helped thousands of guitar players internationally in their pursuit of electric guitar mastery. My online guitar lesson videos have garnered over a million views to date. I am also a contributing author to Guitar World, Guitar Player, and to the Guitar Foundation of America’s Soundboard Journal.

As a composer, I have written and conducted original works for choirs and orchestras and am a frequent guest conductor in the Atlanta area. My compositions have been performed and broadcast on Atlanta Interfaith Broadcasters, WSB, and Cartoon Network. In the realm of rock ‘n’ roll, I composed a power-metal epic as The Fury, titled Uncharted Lands, which was released in 2015 and has gained international popularity.

I also perform in Duo Catanza, a classical guitar duo.  We perform some the greatest music throughout the centuries.

My collegiate education includes undergraduate studies at Berry College and Georgia State University, along with graduate work at Boston University. I available for piano, uke, electric guitar, and classical guitar lessons. I am also available for commissioned works, conducting appearances, and live performances.
